There are a few weeks left of summer, meaning there is still time for a last-minute getaway.

Here are some of the best recommended towns in Suffolk for a short break.

1. Aldeburgh

This seaside town is ideal for a beach weekend. 

Aldeburgh is known as a great town for music lovers as it was the home of British composer Benjamin Britten. 

The high street is lined with Georgian buildings which feature independent shops, restaurants, and galleries. 

You can also visit other nearby places such as Thorpeness beach or Snape Maltings.

2. Flatford & Constable Country

While not a town as such, this area in Suffolk was made famous by John Constable's paintings in the 18th century. 

Many idyllic views from his paintings can still be seen there today.

You can explore nearby Dedham Vale and visit the famous Flatford Mill.

3. Bury St Edmunds

Bury St Edmunds is a historic market and cathederal town best known for the Bury St. Edmunds Abbey. 

You can enjoy a stroll around the Abbey Gardens, or discover the ruins of a monastery.

If you like horses, Newmarket is just a 20 minute drive away and you can visit The National Horse Racing Museum. 

4. Southwold

Southwold is a classic Georgian town and seaside destination. 

The pier here has a restaurant, small shops and vintage coin operated amusements. All of these helped it win 'Pier of the Year'.

The Adnams Brewery can also be found in Southwold which offers tours to see how their drinks are made.

5. Ipswich

Art and history lovers will enjoy a visit to Christchurch Museum which is home to the Wolsey Art Gallery. 

The waterfront has many cafes and restaurants you can visit- maybe you could make a day out of visiting all of them to find your favorite. 

Ipswich is also just over an hour away from London on the train which can make it great for anyone wanting escape the city for the weekend.
