A healthcare couple whose relationship blossomed with the help of Google Translate have tied the knot in front of their UK care home family.

Catia Leal from Portugal and Marius Ali from Romania met in 2019 while working at the same company in Stowmarket.

They did not know English well and relied on Google Translate, however, it did not stop them from falling in love.

Marius proposed to Catia in early 2021.

Last year, the couple joined the team at Mill Lane care home in Felixstowe, where Catia’s mum, Sandra also works.

The home’s residents and staff witnessed the power of love as the healthcare assistants tied the knot in a special pre-wedding celebration.

Catia and Marius are officially getting married during their holiday in Portugal, but they enjoyed sharing all the elements of the wedding with their Mill Lane family.

The care home’s activity coordinator, Debbie Austin, said: "When we realised Catia and Marius were getting married in Portugal and we knew we would not be able to attend, the staff team and the residents wanted to get involved, so we decided to have our own wedding here at the home."

The residents have been busy helping with preparations for their big day, which included making vases for flowers, as well as knitting banners in celebration of Catia and Marius.

The couple also loved all the preparations, as they treat Mill Lane residents and colleagues as their UK family and were thrilled the home could be involved in such a big way.

The celebration included a wedding march, an exchange of rings, a toast, and the cutting of a special cake prepared by the chef at Mill Lane.

Ms Austin added: "It was a fabulous event, and the residents said it was so lovely to see Marius and Catia marry, as they are so special and lovely couple."
