With a weekend of warm weather finally forecast for Suffolk, what better way to soak up the rays than with a glass of wine at a pop-up wine bar?

Whisstock's Wine Bar opened its doors at the start of July for a two-month stint by the river in Woodbridge.

"We opened the wine bar with visions of people drinking a glass of rosé on the terrace in the summer sunshine," said owner Rebecca Murland.

"The wet weather scuppered those plans a little bit!"

In spite of the rain, the pop-up has been really successful, with the last few days proving particularly busy at the picturesque location by the river.

The venture was opened by partners Rebecca Murland and Clement Sigaut, owners of The Sorrel Horse in Shottisham, a Suffolk pub which specialises in seafood dishes.

"We realised how popular seafood was through running our pub, which is why we sell local oysters from Maldon at the wine bar too," said Ms Murland.

It is the only place in Woodbridge where oysters are served. Cheese, from Hamish Johnson, and charcuterie boards are also on offer to accompany the range of natural, organic and biodynamic wines on offer.

The opening of Whisstock's was a homecoming of sorts for the Woodbridge-based couple, who ran Smashing Wines from 2016 to 2020.

"It has been really good to come back into Woodbridge," said Ms Murland.

"Lots of our old customers have come in to see us and it has been great reconnecting with them."

Whisstock's runs an oyster happy hour on Thursday evenings between 6pm - 7pm, where oysters cost only £1.50 each, as well as other deals during the week.

The pop-up is currently set to end at the end of August, so diners should visit soon to avoid missing out.
