A horse has been rescued from a river in Brandon by firefighters.

Fire crews were mobilised at 4.20pm yesterday (August 7) to a horse stuck in the Little Ouse River near Riverside Way.

With the help of What 3 Words, crews located the horse and the rider at a boathouse about a mile from Brandon.

Crews from Brandon and Mildenhall and two water rescue units from Bury St Edmunds rescued the horse with the use of a boat and lines.

The horse got out of the water safely by 8.30pm with advice from an equestrian vet.

It is safe and well, back with its owner and rider.

This is twice in the space of a month that an animal has been rescued from the Little Ouse River in Brandon, which at some points can reach around 2.1m deep.

On July 10, a cow was safely rescued near Station Way by four engines and returned to its field.
