A road is set to be widened to protect an oak tree, as part of a 47-home development in a Suffolk village.
The planning application was made by Hastoe Housing as an amendment to a previous application for the development, for Blacktiles Lane in Martlesham.
The development involves new homes, a school car park, and open space and landscaping.
The issue involved tree protection measures over a mature oak tree at the front of the development site, for a new junction to be built.
Suffolk County Highways would not approve the junction design as the tree protection plan would not allow digging construction for the new site junction, if it would lie over the tree's roots.
A revised junction and tree protection plan was then produced to satisfy both parties and allow the junction to be built.
It was decided that to retain the oak tree, the pavement in the area should be removed and Crown Reduction works undertaken on the tree, reducing its spread by up to four metres.
The application was granted by East Suffolk Council on Wednesday, August 2.
