A planned Battle of Britain flypast that was expected to soar in the skies above Suffolk has been cancelled after the weather was deemed unsuitable for flying.

As one of the star events at the 60th Stowmarket Carnival, the Battle of Britain flypast including a Hawker Hurricane was due to draw crowds to Stowmarket Recreation Ground on Saturday afternoon.

The event organisers posted the news on Facebook, in a post that read: "Due to weather forecast for Saturday afternoon being unsuitable for flying aircraft that are 80 plus years old, we have just had a phone call cancelling Saturday’s Flypast.

"Never fear - we will try to sort something for next year’s carnival!"

This follows the weather warning issued by the Met Office for Suffolk this weekend, where wind gusts are expected to reach around 40mph.

At this time, the planned display by the Red Devils Parachute Regiment on Sunday afternoon is still due to go ahead, but this is dependent on the weather conditions.
