New homes are being sought for older Suffolk residents following the loss of two accommodation providers in the county.

Silverdale Residential Home in Felixstowe closed at the end of May, although the county council has been able to find 'suitable alternative provision' for the home's five residents.

However, four residents at Priory Paddocks Nursing Home in Darsham still need to be found new accommodation, with the home set to close at the end of this month.

Of the 19 residents, ten have already moved into an alternative residence, while five have new provision lined up and will be moving over the coming days, leaving four who still need to be found new homes.

Mystery surrounds the reason why the homes have closed- or are about to close- as representatives of neither Silverdale, nor Priory Paddocks were available for comment.

The council is responsible for overseeing the social care system in Suffolk and ensuring that it operates effectively.

A spokesperson for the council said:  "While the council has a statutory role to ensure an effective and sustainable adult social care system in Suffolk, social care providers themselves are independent businesses who make their own decisions regarding whether to close their business or not.

"These decisions are never taken lightly by providers and may be based upon a number of different factors.

"In such circumstances Suffolk County Council works closely with the providers to ensure that the residents involved are found good suitable provision elsewhere to meet their care needs."

He added he was 'confident' the Priory Paddocks residents would be found new services ahead of the closure date.

At the last inspections by industry watchdog Care Quality Commission, both Silverdale and Priory Paddocks were rated as 'good'.
