A man suffered a fractured skull, a fractured cheekbone, and a broken arm after allegedly being attacked when he went to the home of Stowmarket man who owed him money, a court has heard.
Prior to the alleged attack, Arron Goddard had sent 41-year-old Jamie Ricketts messages asking him to repay £20 he had lent him; Ipswich Crown Court was told.
Mr Goddard had ended up going to Ricketts home and shortly after entering the house had allegedly been attacked with a weapon of some kind, said Tim Kiely, prosecuting.
He said that because of the level of injuries he sustained in the alleged attack Mr Goddard had difficulty remembering exactly what happened.
He said CCTV footage from a camera close to Ricketts’ home appears to show him drag Mr Goddard's prone body out into the street.
“He was so injured he had difficulty standing up,” said Mr Kiely.
Mr Goddard was seen by a friend who took him to a former partner’s home and the emergency services were called.
Ricketts of Gainsborough Road, Stowmarket. has denied wounding Mr Goddard with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm in September 2019.
He has also denied a less serious alternative charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm.
After his arrest, Ricketts claimed that Mr Goddard had attacked him and that he had been defending himself.
In a prepared statement to police he claimed Mr Goddard had barged into his house with blood on his face and attacked him.
Ricketts said he had used force to defend himself and to get Mr Goddard out of the house.
He said he was going to call the police but didn’t have his mobile phone with him.
The trial continues.
