A pier in Suffolk has been named one of the nation's best in a newly-released list.
A round-up by The Sunday Times of seven of the best British piers, by travel writer Chris Haslam, includes Southwold pier.
The original Southwold pier was 810ft long and was built in 1900.
In 1934, the T-shaped landing stage was swept away in a violent storm and never replaced. Three years later the timber buildings at the shoreward end were replaced with a two-storey pavilion complete with a concert hall and amusement arcade.
The Sunday Times said: "The Under the Pier Show is the highlight: a wacky world of alternative arcade action, with machines such as Whack-a-Banker; the Zimmer frame trainer and the Buy a House or Die Trying game, in which you’re pitched against a second-home owner, a property developer and an offshore fund.
"Suddenly you realise why Orwell is welcome on the pier. The fish and chips are good too. Stay at the Adnams-owned Swan, the town’s most comfortable hotel."
