It is the longest day of the year and, whilst some may celebrate by lighting a fire, making a flower wreath, or dancing around a maypole, we've rounded up the best places to watch the sun go down.
The sun is due to set at about 9.20pm this evening. How are you planning to watch the spectacle?
1. Woodbridge
Whilst Woodbridge is a quaint shopping town with several nice cafes, it also has walking routes and benches along the River Deben. When the tide is out in the evening, the muddy riverbed reflects the sunset, doubling the impact of the vibrant colours.
2. Walberswick
Walberswick is famed for its soft and sandy beach, which makes it a great spot to watch the sunset. It should be low tide at 9.20pm this evening, so there will plenty of space to paddle and watch the sun go down.
3. River Deben, Ramsholt
Further along from Woodbridge down the River Deben is Ramsholt. Why not grab a drink at the Ramsholt Arms and watch the sunset from their beer garden?
This pub's terrace was used during the filming of Yesterday, the 2019 Danny Boyle romantic comedy, and has great views of the river.
4. River Alde, Iken Cliffs
The River Alde is located near Snape Maltings. Whilst a visit to some mudflats might not seem an ideal spot to watch the sun go down, this nature reserve is far enough away from busy streets to make for a peaceful and untouched view of the solstice sunset.
5. Ipswich Waterfront
Finally, the Waterfront at Ipswich. With a plethora of pubs and restaurants to stop at, the Waterfront makes for an easy location to grab a drink and watch the sun set over the masts of the docked yachts.
