A free bulky waste collection service could soon be introduced in a coastal town in a bid to tackle fly-tipping.
Households in Lowestoft could soon benefit as a new scheme is trialled.
A free bulky waste collection service was first mooted in a bid to tackle fly-tipping last year as Lowestoft Town Council's climate emergency and ecological committee proposed the introduction of the free service.
Proposed to help low-income households and those without cars, Lowestoft Town Council is now seeking contractors - with a 'bulky waste collection tender' unveiled.
Encouraging contractors to tender for a "contract opportunity" entitled 'Collection and Disposal of Bulky Waste', to carry out the collection and disposal of bulky waste, the trialled scheme will begin "soon".
A town council spokesman said: "Lowestoft Town Council will soon begin a trial of a scheme to help households in Lowestoft by offering a free to access collection and disposal of bulky waste items such as sofas, fridges, wardrobes and play equipment where such households may struggle with the charges ordinarily made for such a service.
"The bulky waste contractor will help the town council with the trial of a scheme in Lowestoft to offer free-to-access collection and disposal of bulky waste items."
With the trialled scheme unveiled "to improve the street scene and restore pride in the town", the contract for collection and disposal of bulky waste items would be from households in the NR32 and NR33 area in Lowestoft.
The town council spokesman added: "The scheme is part of the town council’s aim to decrease fly-tipping and restore pride in the town."
Interested contractors who have the equipment, necessary licences and are interested in submitting a tender for the works, are being encouraged to contact the town council at admin@lowestofttowncouncil.gov.uk
Further details about the bulky waste collection tender is available online from the town council website.
