A new Bury St Edmunds takeaway offering authentic American dishes including brisket, ribs and burgers, is opening at the weekend.

Rooster's Smokehouse will begin taking orders on Saturday, June 24, and will offer a delivery service to Bury St Edmunds addresses from its Fornham St Martin location.

Reece Berry, 29, said he was inspired to launch the business after he began using his back garden smokehouse during Covid-19 lockdown.

"It all stemmed from a love of American food and culture that inspired me to start doing it," he said.

"It will definitely be a real family run business with a true family feel. I want everyone to enjoy the food and I also want my family to enjoy their jobs and have fun."

Reece's partner and mum will be manning the orders on the phone lines, while his dad and friends will pitch in with deliveries.

He believes the brisket, which is cooked for 16 hours in his custom-made smoker shed, will be a favourite amongst customers, but the extensive menu includes everything from cheeseburgers and fries to pulled pork or chicken wings.

Having been given a food hygiene rating of five in a recent food standards agency inspection, Reece said he is ready for the new challenge.

"I am really excited, if also a little bit stressed. It has been all hands on deck since we got given our five-star rating and we're all really looking forward to opening night on Saturday," he said.

"It has been fantastic to see people are looking forward to trying the food. The feedback has been incredible with people messaging and ordering for opening day."

Orders for Rooster's Smokehouse should be made via their Facebook page or by calling 07949 125824.
