This weekend, temperatures in Suffolk are set to reach the highest levels of the year so far.

Plenty of people will be flocking to the beach, but some may be on the lookout for a quieter place to enjoy the sunshine.

Here are five water spots that are perfect for a sunny day...

1. Alton Water

With a perimeter spanning eight miles, a walk round Alton Water can become a whole day out for those who want to bring a picnic and do some exploring.

Although popular with runners and cyclists, a walk round this manmade reservoir offers some breathtaking views of the water that should not be missed.

2. Flatford

Down by the Essex border, it's no wonder painters adored Flatford.

With stunning views of the River Stour and the fields beyond, an afternoon spent in the sunshine here is a real treat.

3. Lackford Lakes

Over in west Suffolk and a short drive north of Bury St Edmunds, Lackford Lakes is a gorgeous part of the county which not only provides spectacular water views but an abundance of wildlife.

It's a great place for families to embrace nature, with a variety of activities regularly taking place at the site throughout the year.

4. Needham Lake

Popular among locals and people travelling from across the county, Needham Lake is one of Suffolk's most visited beauty spots.

After a stroll round the site, stop by the new Duck & Teapot cafe for a bite to eat or a refreshing drink.

5. Thorpeness Meare

Not too far from the sea, Thorpeness Meare is incredibly pretty and gives the village a unique charm.

Whilst exploring, you might spot landmarks such as the House in the Clouds, Thorpeness Windmill or Wendy's House on the Meare.
