A cat lover is preparing to open the doors to Suffolk's only cat cafe later this year.

Shelley Smith is set to open her "dream" business which is called Finnegan's Whiskers Cat Café after months of planning.

"I'm really excited and I have been working on this idea for a really long time," she said.

"Obviously I am a massive cat lover and I have got three of my own, so it is a bit of a dream come true that I have been able to get it to a reality."

The café will be in North Street, in Sudbury, and Mrs Smith is hoping to be open around September.

People will be able to book an hourly slot to visit the cat café.

Mrs Smith said that the cats that will be homed at the café will be from the organisation Mel's Rescue and people will have a chance to adopt the cats.

"They will select the cats that they feel will be best suited to the environment, because it won't be right for every cat," Mrs Smith said.

"If customers fall in love with the cats they will have to fill out an adoption form and the process is handled by Mel's Rescue."

Although no food will be prepared at the premises Mrs Smith is working with local suppliers and will be offering cakes, brownies, savoury pastries and a range of hot and cold drinks.

Once the café is open customers will be encouraged to pre-book which they will be able to do via their website.

"Cat cafés are like my happy place," Mrs Smith said.

"One of the great things about them is it is an opportunity for cats that have been sitting at rescue centres to be seen.

Mrs Smith said there will be weekly sessions at the café including a quiet hour, over 60s coffee morning, and arts and crafts.
