A Sudbury man will perform his first ever solo drag queen performance in memory of the beloved mum who always supported him.
Steven Boast, 29, will make his debut performance on July 15 in Needham Market, with all proceeds donated to Cancer Research.
Supporting this charity has become especially important to him, after losing his mother, Sarah Boast, to ovarian cancer.
Sarah, a former TA at Acton CEVC Primary School, died in 2020, aged just 55.
“Mum was such an upbeat person, considering all the treatment she had to go through,” said Steven. “She was always smiling and happy, a very persevering person.”
He now tries to do something each year to support the charity.
On June 25 last year, his mother’s birthday, Steven took on a skydive, dressed as his drag alter ego Aqua the Marine.
However, this left him wondering what he could do this year that was bigger and better than jumping out of a plane.
“Once you’ve been up into the skies, there’s not really a way for you to go higher!” said Steven.
He then hit upon the perfect idea- performing as Aqua the Marine.

“I used to watch drag a lot with my mum, while she was going through her treatment. We went to DragCon together, and a few other shows, too,” Steven explained.
“My mum was always so supportive of me as a kid, and the fact that I liked drag.
“It’s something that resonates with me strongly.”
While Steven is comfortable taking photos and videos for social media, this will be the first time he will perform as a solo drag queen.
“I now need to get my routine down,” said Steven. He already has a few songs in mind, with a mix of comedy and lip-syncing.
Steven will perform as Aqua the Marine at the Needham Market Community Centre on July 15. To buy tickets, click here.
