A 34-year-old man has been charged after a woman was allegedly sexually assaulted in Stowmarket town centre at the weekend.
The incident happened at about 1.15am on Sunday in the Ipswich Road area of the town.
The woman had been walking away from the town centre towards Combs Ford through Lockington Road, when she became aware of a man walking close behind her.
The man walked past her and turned around and grabbed hold of her, before assualting her.
The driver of a car in the road disturbed the man and he ran away from the scene.
On Monday police arrested a man in connection with the incident and he was taken to Bury St Edmunds police investigation centre for questioning.
Constantin Tulba, of Edgecomb Road, Stowmarket, has subsequently been charged with sexual assault, a Suffolk police spokesman has now confirmed.
He was remanded in custody and appeared before Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday where he was subsequently remanded for a further hearing at Ipswich Crown Court on July 5.
