A woman was sexually assaulted after being accosted by a man in a Suffolk town centre. 

The alleged incident took place on Ipswich Road in Stowmarket at about 1.15am on Sunday. 

The victim had been walking away from Stowmarket town centre towards Combs Ford through Lockington Road when she was accosted by an unknown male on Ipswich Road where the suspect reportedly sexually assaulted the victim before fleeing the scene.

A spokesman for Suffolk police said inquiries into the incident were on going and officers were currently reviewing CCTV footage from the area. 

The victim is being supported by specially trained officers.

Officers are conducting patrols in the area and anyone with any concerns are encouraged to speak to them.

Officers investigating the assault are particularly keen to speak with anyone who witnessed the incident or who was in the location at the time and saw or heard anything suspicious.
