The Suffolk hotel named the UK’s most romantic getaway destination has added five ‘Shepherd Huts’ to its luxury accommodation.
Retreat East in Hemingstone, which was named the UK's most romantic hotel of the year by The Times and the Sunday Times last year, has just put the finishing touches to five new ‘Shepherd Huts'.
The huts pay homage to Retreat East’s heritage, being a former dairy farm in the heart of the Suffolk countryside.
Perfect for those who cannot bear to leave their four-legged companions at home, these huts sleep two adults and one dog. Their stays include a complimentary continental breakfast, private use of the spar facilities, bike hire and even free use of wellies, so that they may enjoy the rolling Suffolk countryside surrounding the hotel.
The huts were created by Holmes Hill Shepherds Huts, based in Sussex.
“A shepherd's hut is a portable structure, a four-wheeled trailer as it would be traditionally. We still make them today how they would have been made all those years ago,” explained owner and director, Robert Mcfagan.
“Traditionally, the huts would have been used for the shepherd to look after his sheep. They would have been placed in a field, and he would sleep and stay in it, using it to watch his sheep.”
The huts at Retreat East, however, are far more luxurious than the original models.
Each hut comes complete with a king-sized bed, a custom-made bathroom and kitchen, and a living area with a wall-mounted wood burner. Outside, guests can relax on the raised decking area, watching the sunset over magnificent views of the surrounding meadows.
The Shepherds Huts are now available for booking online, with stays commencing from June 1.
