Suffolk Show director John Taylor couldn't hide his delight as the second day of the event drew to a close on Thursday afternoon.

"I just can't believe how well it's gone," he said as he reflected on huge crowds and the hundreds of trade stalls that had help make the event one of the best people could remember.

This was the first of three shows that the Suffolk farmer will direct - and it had an emphasis on the future of farming and food production.

The main car parks were full by 11am and the overflow parks had to be opened - and it was clear from anyone trying to get around the ground or buy anything from a food stall that this was a very busy event,

Mr Taylor said: "We have about 800 trade stalls and there was no problem at all in finding people wanting to come here.

"I went to as many as I could and it was clear that they were all very busy - the BT stall was showing off some fantastic technology."

The weather at the show was again perfect to attract visitors - and lighter wind meant that the Red Devils parachute team were able to help bring events in the Grand Ring to a close.

On Wednesday a parachute display had to be cancelled because of high winds over the showground but there was no such problem on Thursday.

Mr Taylor said: "The weather is perfect. You don't want it too hot because it is uncomfortable for visitors and really difficult for the livestock."

He will now be concentrating on the next two shows he will direct - planning for the 2024 show will start very soon and will really step up a gear after harvest is completed in September.
