Well-known Suffolk radio presenters could soon be heard on a brand-new radio station that aims to be "at the heart of the community" and is about to launch in July.
Felixstowe-based Suffolk Sound is a new online service playing music from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.
The station, which will be run by a board of Suffolk-based trustees, is set to launch in July and will showcase familiar Suffolk presenters.
Rob Dunger, the co-founder and renowned presenter, said he is excited by the opportunities that Suffolk Sound will bring.
"The community engagement in our area is bursting with both hope and resilience.
"The passion, the love, the dedication, and fervour is evident in every walk of life. Through my work in radio, it’s my job to bring those stories to the widest audience possible.
"Suffolk Sound will be at the heart of the community, talking about what you do, from the place where you live. Suffolk Sound is the most exciting chapter in my broadcasting career."
The co-founder, Richie Ross, added: "We believe changes to BBC local radio have shifted the prominence of local radio for our communities here in Suffolk.
"Many people across the region are being side-lined and losing the trusted voices they enjoyed listening to.
"Suffolk Sound’s mission is to be fully embedded into the communities we, as presenters of this exciting new station, all come from."
The station is being founded in the wake of a shake-up in broadcasting at BBC local radio which has seen the high-profile departures of Mark Murphy, Lesley Dolphin, Nick Risby and most recently Georgy Jamieson.
The co-founders added that Suffolk Sound will also give people of all ages, who have an interest in radio and media, a chance to learn new skills.
The station will announce the line-up of presenters in the next few weeks, with some names very familiar to listeners across Suffolk.
Mr Ross added: "Above all, it will be fun, fresh and focused on everything that is great about this fantastic county."
