Union representatives have put their case to reinstate four sacked Felixstowe dock workers to shareholders at the port's Chinese HQ amid what they described as heavy security.

The Unite delegation addressed key investors who were at CK Hutchison's annual general meeting in Hong Kong.

They are claiming that the "Felixstowe Four" workers - Andy Sochon, Jamie Parsley, Peter Stead and Keith Wright - were unfairly dismissed during a period of industrial unrest at the Port of Felixstowe.

The pay row attracted global headlines when a strike over pay at the Port of Felixstowe caused widespread disruption.

They displayed a large banner within the building demanding that the company reinstates the workers after travelling to the Hong Kong to attend the AGM.

Unite says it has compiled a "forensic analysis" of Hutchison which owns the Port of Felixstowe and assets including energy and water utilities in the UK.

In the lead-up to the AGM the delegation engaged key investors of the group based in Hong Kong, including Invesco, Allianz, Barclays, Blackrock, Goldman Sachs and HSBC.

Unite head of executive operations Gail Cartmail said: "Unite’s delegation has delivered a message to CK Hutchison and their most important shareholders - no matter how powerful you are or how far away you may be, you cannot escape our demand for justice for the Felixstowe Four.

"Our team of capital analysts have made it very clear to CK Hutchison and investors that this campaign will only escalate and they must do the right thing by reinstating the Felixstowe Four today.”

Unite representatives went to Hong Kong to take their protest to the CK Hutchison annual general meeting on Thursday, May 18, from noon Hong Kong time (eight hours ahead of the UK) at Kowloon.

The Port of Felixstowe/Hutchison has been approached for a comment.
