Former Ipswich Star and EADT journalist Lynne Mortimer has become the new Mayor of Ipswich at an historic ceremony at the Corn Exchange.
Ms Mortimer was elected to the borough last year - three years after she retired after writing for the Star since the 1980s.
She is Labour councillor for Gainsborough and said that becoming mayor of her home town was the greatest honour of her life.
Her charities this year are Brave Futures which supports children who have suffered abuse and Inspire Suffolk helping young people to reach their greatest potential.
Ms Mortimer takes over from John Cook, who stepped down after a busy year that started with the Platinum Jubilee celebrations and ended with the Coronation and included the State Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
The new deputy mayor is Elango Elavalakan who has stepped into the role because Mr Cook is joining the new executive team after giving up the chain of office.
The meeting also saw the formal election of Neil MacDonald as new council leader, replacing David Ellesmere.
