A Suffolk scout troop has moved a step closer to getting a much needed extension to its scout hut after its members raised £2,500 from a rowing challenge.
Fifty cubs, scouts and explorers from 5th Woodbridge Sea Scouts participated in the Row the Deben challenge where they rowed the 20 miles from Woodbridge to Felixstowe and back again.

The money raised will help to fund the extension to the hut in Tide Mill Way to allow the troop to open more groups and take some of the 205 young people on the waiting list into the group.
The expansion will encompass dedicated changing rooms and a versatile multi-purpose area, creating a conducive environment for a wide array of scout programmes and community events.

For their challenge, the route was split into six legs and overseen by 20 volunteer leaders, taking around ten hours to complete.
Members of the troop have also been taking visitors on boat cruises along the Deben in return for a donation towards the cost of the hut extension.
So far, these trips have raised £250 in donations.
