A wanted man who was using a false name has been jailed after he broke into a fish and chip shop and popular café.

Lee Chapman, of no fixed address, was jailed at Suffolk Magistrates' Court after he pleaded guilty to two burglaries.

The offences took place at Nowton Park Café on April 6, 2022 and Jimmy's Fish and Chip shop at Hardwick shopping centre on December 29, 2022.

During investigations forensic tests, a rock that was used to smash a window of the café bought back a positive identity of Chapman.

The same result was generated after a paving slab at the chip shop was also forensically tested – linking 44-year-old Chapman to the scene of both crimes.

In April this year, officers attended a wooded area near to the Sainsbury's store in the town and a tent was found.

Chapman was subsequently arrested and charged with the two offences.

He had been wanted on prison recall from 2015, living under a false name and identity.

When officers located Chapman, they confirmed his identity and began to link these and other offences to him.

At court two other offences of burglary were taken into consideration and Chapman was jailed for four months.
