Organisers of the Tendring Show have high hopes for this year's event in July - as they build on its "tremendous" return last year.
The farmer-run show - to be held at Lawford House Park, near Manningtree on Saturday, July 8 - is a key event in the countryside calendar and last year attracted crowds of more than 20,000.
This year - with more stands and exhibits on the cards - organisers are hopeful visitors will return in big numbers this year.
The one-day event - organised by the non-profit Tendring Hundred Farmers’ Club - will feature a wide range of entertainment, shopping and livestock events.
It has been held since 1899 and brings together the rural and urban populations of north Essex and beyond, celebrating the area's rich agricultural heritage with displays of farm machinery, livestock, and opportunities to buy food from local producers.
Local businessman Steven Rose has been chosen as 2023's president.
The managing director of Rose Builders - a traditional family-run firm of builders, contractors and developers first established in 1896 - has strong family and personal ties to the show and with the local farming community. His father Bill was president in 2004.
This year's show will focus on creativity in the countryside - a theme which Steven hopes will inspire show-goers "to wonder, to think, to create, to design, and to make".
"Since childhood, I have been fascinated and inspired by creating, designing, and making things," he said.
"There is so much creativity that goes on in the countryside that is just not seen or appreciated.
"This led me to want to shine a light on some of the talent and creativity that goes on around us with this year’s theme."
Club chairman Will King
"Last year’s show was a tremendous success and early signs are that we can expect an even greater number of exhibitors and trade stands back on the showground this summer.
"Visitors can expect that special Tendring Show atmosphere that celebrates our agricultural heritage and the best of our local communities, including brilliant entertainment, plenty of shopping opportunities, livestock showing classes, big machinery, and small animal tents.”
The show will feature more than 150 trade stands, and a host of entertainment from W2W BMX Display Team, dog agility competitions, the popular sheep show and main ring displays.
These include vintage and modern farming machinery displays, a ‘Farming on the Move’ agricultural machinery show, a fast-moving scurry, hound parade, vintage cars, and culminating in a grand parade of livestock.
A food pavilion, art show and lifestyle area and education tent will also be among the draws.
