A traditional thatched cottage painted in ‘Suffolk pink’ has come up for sale in Nedging Tye near Ipswich for just over half a million.

Tye Cottage is for sale with estate agents Chapman Stickels for £525,000 and is believed to date back to the 17th century.

It was awarded Grade II listed status by Historic England in 1980, but in recent years it has been updated and improved.

Those looking for a home with character won't be disappointed, however, as it's still full of distinctive period features and offers lots of charm - including a window seat in the dining room which is nestled into a box bay window.

Features include exposed wall and ceiling beams, oak ledged doors and fireplaces with woodburning stoves in both of the reception rooms.

To the rear of the house there is a fitted kitchen, which was refurbished fairly recently. It boasts black granite work surfaces on two walls, an inset butler’s sink and a range cooker, plus a good range of wall and base units.

A new ground-floor cloakroom, first-floor bathroom and double-glazed casement windows have also been installed and were completed at the same time as the kitchen as part of the improvements, and there is also a study.

On the first floor there are two double bedrooms which offer lovely views of the gardens and bedroom two is also served by an en suite bathroom.

Tye Cottage is set well back from the village road and positioned ‘side on’, meaning it enjoys a good sense of privacy and conclusion.

Immediately to the north of the property there is a detached one-bedroom annexe, which could be used as accommodation for guests, as a luxurious home office or perhaps even as a holiday let, subject to permissions.

It offers a central sitting room, kitchen, shower room and a double bedroom on the end.

Elsewhere, well-maintained gardens sit to the south and east and include a natural pond. A driveway and hardstanding area, fronting the village road, provides ample off-road parking.

To one corner of the plot there is also a detached double garage, which has power connected and provides plenty of storage space.

The complete plot extends to around a quarter of an acre and property is surrounded by farmland on three sides.
