The sister and fiancée have paid tribute to a man who was murdered by a father and son duo in a vigilante attack in Bury St Edmunds.

Neil Charles died after being attacked by David and Edward King on the Moreton Hall estate on June 20, 2021.

David King, 55, and 20-year-old Edward King were found guilty of murdering Mr Charles in May last year.

The pair were sentenced to life imprisonment at Ipswich Crown Court on Monday.

Linnet Booth, Mr Charles' sister, said in a statement read to court: "He was a brother, a son and an uncle. He was a kind and gentle person. He was never aggressive and always one to retreat.

"We as a family did not seek revenge for what happened, we put faith in the police and the courts to do this.

"We very much thank the police and the legal team who have supported us through this.

"Nobody has the right to take the life of another and anyone who has done this should be punished accordingly.

"As a family, we deal with the loss of Neil in our own ways and will continue to do so privately. We miss you, Neil.

"I feel my heart physically sink when I am reminded of this. My last happy memory of him is his 47th birthday.

"We buried him two days after what would have been his 48th birthday."

Michelle Jackson, Mr Charles' fiancée, added: "We supported each other throughout our lives. We worked through everything together, he was loving, caring, kind and not at all aggressive.

"Neil was mine. He was important to me and everyone loved him for who he was.

"That morning I heard something had happened to Neil, I knew it was bad.

"I couldn't understand when I found out he had been stabbed.

"How did two people just change our world in a massive way?"
