Plans for a new artificial grass football pitch in Brandon have been given the green light, as the school plans to increase its capacity by 100 pupils.

West Suffolk Council has agreed to the partial change of use of Breckland School's football pitch.

The plans will see a 3G artificial grass pitch constructed with perimeter fencing, floodlighting and a storage container accompaniment.

The planning statement adds that the new pitch will meet the "requirement of a greater space for sports and play all year round" for the extra 100 pupils the currently "cramped" school will accommodate.

IES Breckland School has also received a new two-storey teaching block, activity studio and hard play area as part of the plans.

When the proposals were first submitted, Brandon Town Council objected to the application on the grounds that the noise and light pollution could be "intrusive or disruptive" to nearby residents.

However, now that amended plans have been received the council has changed its stance to back the proposals.

To combat the objections received by neighbouring residences, West Suffolk Council has stated that the pitches will have to operate a "no-whistle policy" for community use in the evenings.
