A county lines drug dealer who threw a glove containing more than 100 wraps of cocaine and heroin out of his car window when he was stopped by police near Bury St Edmunds has been jailed for three years.

Officers saw a car being driven by Jerome Underhill on the A14 near Bury St Edmunds in July 2019 and stopped him in a country lane in Little Saxham, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

He was arrested but allowed to go on his way after nothing of interest was found in his car, said Michael Crimp, prosecuting.

However, it was later decided to search the area where Underhill was stopped and a latex glove containing 68 wraps of heroin and 51 wraps of crack cocaine was discovered.

Although traces of a number of fingerprints were found on the glove, Underhill, who had no previous convictions, wasn’t on the police database and it wasn’t until he was arrested in January and fingerprinted that a match was found with a print on the latex glove, said Mr Crimp.

The court heard that Underhill was arrested in London on January 25 for county lines drug dealing in the Bury St Edmunds area after his mobile phone was co-located with a county lines drug line phone on at least two occasions in Suffolk.

Underhill, 31, of Mount Pleasant Lane, London, admitted possession with intent to supply crack cocaine and heroin in 2019 and being concerned in the supply of class A drugs in November and December last year.

Jailing him for three years, Recorder Richard Conley said he couldn’t understand why Underhill had got involved in drug dealing last year after his narrow escape in 2019.

“You should have realised that that was your one and only chance,” said the judge.

Sunil Mansingh, for Underhill, said his client was genuinely remorseful and was ashamed at letting his family down.

He said Underhill had made a terrible mistake by getting involved in drug dealing.
