Jewellery and treasures from Suffolk's horse racing elite is set to to under the hammer on April 6.

Forty-four of "Queen of Newmarket" Julie Cecil's jewellery, silver and watches are set to be offered up at a sale organised by auctioneers Cheffins.

Sporting memorabilia and art works gathered over a lifetime by the late horse racing trainer - who died aged 80 in 2022 - were sold at a fine art sale on March 22 and 23.

Mrs Cecil - daughter of nine times champion trainer Sir Noel Murless - was the first wife of Sir Henry Cecil, a leading figure in the European racing scene.

Cheffins director Jonathan Law said: "We are delighted to include a wonderful collection of silver and jewellery from Julie Cecil, who was the doyenne of the Newmarket horseracing scene for many years.

"It includes a collection of silver prizes from both her own and her father, Noel Murless.”

The collection includes a cased set of six Elizabeth II silver gilt goblets and a bowl engraved Goodwood 1967 from her father Noel Murless’s win with St Chad ridden by George Moore. Its guide price is £500 to £700.

A silver table cigar box to mark Irvine's win at Newmarket in 1962 when he was ridden by Lester Piggott and trained by Henry Cecil is also among the lots.

East Anglian Daily Times: The sale also features a pair of 20th century silver topped horse's hooves celebrate horse Crepello's win at Newmarket when he was ridden by Lester Piggoot and scooped the 2,000 Guineas race.

A large selection of Mrs Cecil's personal jewellery will also be offered up.
