Plans for a new recycling centre in Haverhill have moved another step closer as date is announced for a new contractor to start work on the site.
DXI Construction Ltd will be conducting the development of the new facility on Homefield Road, which will replace the current Chalkstone Way Recycling Centre.
Planning permission was granted in November 2021 and an environmental permit to operate has also been given by the Environment Agency.
The centre was initially projected to open in 2022, but construction work is now expected to commence in June this year instead.
Councillor Richard Smith, Suffolk County Council cabinet member for economic development, transport strategy and waste, said: "With the population of west Suffolk continuing to grow, it is important that the right facilities are in place to assist with recycling and disposal of waste.
"People can be assured that we are working hard to bring this new site into being and I am confident that this time next year, Haverhill residents will have a new site with much better facilities and access, serving the area for many years to come."
