A huge development with new health and leisure facilities is planned for Stowmarket leisure grounds.

The new facilities are planned for Chilton Fields and the High School and Leisure Centre grounds.

It is part of Stowmarket’s health, education and leisure facilities (SHELF) scheme, to improve sport, health and leisure facilities in the town.

There are plans for a new wellbeing hub for organisations to use, a new sports hall, sports pavilion, games area, 3G football pitch, athletics facility, rugby pitch, 100-metre track, play area, and more.

The new pavilion is expected to have social space, catering, changing rooms, and a physio room.

The plans aim to improve on the existing sporting facilities on the site, which include a current pavilion and sports pitches.

Last month, Mid Suffolk District Council’s cabinet approved a £250,000 injection of funds to spend on the sceme.

The application was submitted by Mid Suffolk District Council, validated on Monday, March 20.

A decision is to be expected on the application by June 19.
