A drunk motorist who drove at speeds of up to 100mph on the A14 near Stowmarket and tried to ram a police car when officers tried to get him to stop has been jailed for 20 months.
At one stage during the pursuit the Land Rover Freelander being driven by 31-year-old Mitchell Dickenson, who was three times the drink drive limit, became airborne and ended up overturned, Ipswich Crown Court heard.
Dickenson, of Redpoll Road, Costessey, admitted dangerous driving, assaulting an emergency worker, driving with excess alcohol and failing to co-operate with a drug test.
In addition to being jailed he was banned from driving for 46 months and ordered to take an extended retest.
Jane Oldfield, prosecuting, said police went to the A14 on November 22 last year after being contacted about Dickenson’s erratic driving by a member of the public.

When the police car pulled alongside Dickenson’s vehicle with its blue lights flashing, he had tried to ram it on two occasions.
Dickenson had driven at speeds of between 60-100mph and had weaved across the lanes of the dual carriageway.
At one stage the Freelander became airborne when Dickenson drove across rough land to take a slip road and shortly afterwards the vehicle came to a halt after overturning.
Dickenson refused to provide saliva for a drug test and had kicked a police officer in the back of the head while he was being taken to hospital for treatment for cuts to his head.
Sentencing him Judge David Pugh said Dickenson’s driving had caused a huge risk to other road users especially the officers in the police car he had rammed.
Dickenson, who chose not to be legally represented, told the court he was an alcoholic and would welcome any help the court could give him.
