Is RAF Lakenheath holding American nuclear weapons?

Campaign for Nuclear Disarnment (CND) has raised concerns that nuclear weapons are going to be held at the Suffolk airbase. 

On Tuesday, crowds are expected to gather outside the US Embassy in London to protest against the return of nuclear weapons to Britain. 

Peace activist and joint coordinator of the Campaign for the Accountability of American Bases Lindis Percy said nuclear weapons should not be kept at RAF Lakenheath because they are to dangerous. 

"Lakenheath is extremely vulnerable with the tense situation that is going on at the moment with Ukraine and Putin has been threatening nuclear weapons," Ms Percy said. 

"We should absolutely get rid of them. You can't survive a nuclear war and everything would be wiped out."

When approached for a comment about the posibility of RAF Lakenheath holding nuclear weapons a Ministru of Defence spokesman said: "It remains a longstanding UK and NATO policy to neither confirm nor deny the presence of nuclear weapons at a given location."

CND held an anti-nuclear weapon protest outside the airbase in November. 

Several speakers spoke out against the plans, including CND chairman Tom Unterrainer, Grace Cowan from the ‘Stop the War Coalition’ and peace campaigner and activist Angie Zelter.
