An emergency alert system first trialled in Suffolk is now to be rolled out across the rest of the UK.
The system will give the government and emergency services the capability to send an alert directly to mobile phones when there is a risk to life.
The text messages will appear on your device and play a loud siren-like sound for up to 10 seconds.
Following successful tests in east Suffolk and Reading, the UK-wide alerts test will take place on Sunday, April 23.
