Why Southwold in Suffolk is one of UK's coolest places

The town recently featured on a list compiled by Naturecan about the country's 50 coolest places.

Coming in at 28th, Southwold was the only Suffolk town or village to feature.

Here are five reasons why we think Southwold deserved its place on the list.

It's home to a huge brewery

Adnams makes drinks such as Ghost Ship and Broadside and was founded by the Adnams brothers in Southwold in 1872.

The company continues to operate out of Southwold to this day.

The beach is one of the best in East Anglia

Southwold's beach is regularly featured in lists naming the best in the country.

It has also picked up the prestigious Blue Flag award for the quality of the beach, the way it is managed and the facilities it offers to visitors.

It's a popular dog walking spot

Any trip to Southwold on a sunny day will feature families taking their dogs on walks throughout the town centre and on the beach.

The annual Southwold Sausage Dog Walk is a key event that attracts hundreds of pets and their owners to the Suffolk coast.

There are loads of great places to eat and drink

Southwold, being a popular holiday spot, has a huge selection of restaurants, pubs and bars dotted throughout the town.

Some are owned by Adnams, but there's plenty of independents, too.

Famous faces have called it home

George Orwell, real name Eric Blair, went to school in Southwold before becoming one of the most famous writers of all time.

Film writer Richard Curtis and his partner Emma Freud and DJ Simon Mayo are some of the big names who live nearby.
