They might not always receive national recognition, but Suffolk is home to a number of outstanding beaches you should visit in Suffolk.

Southwold was recently named one of the coolest places to live in the UK with its beach receiving high praise.

Here are five beaches in Suffolk that are also definitely worth a visit.

Sizewell

Sizewell is perhaps better known for its nuclear power station – but the beach is also a great day out to.

It can be found a short drive from Leiston, which itself is only a few miles from the A12.

Slaughden

Located close to Aldeburgh is the shingle spit Slaughden.

Home to the Martello Tower Slaughden is definetely worth a visit.

You can also take a nice stroll along the River Alde and the marshes nearby.

Bawdsey

Bawdsey is full of wildlife and is accessible by foot ferry.

This is probably the easiest way to get to Bawdsey, as the village is about seven miles south of Woodbridge through the Suffolk Coast & Heaths AONB.

Shingle Street

Arguably one of Suffolk's most picturesque beaches Shingle Street is a great place to watch the sunrise and sunset.

The hamlet was originally a home for fishermen and river pilots for the River Ore.

Covehithe

The soft and sandy beach is littered with interesting tree sculptures and is accessible by foot or bicycle.

The beach is also one of Suffolk's best hidden gems.
