A man has been charged after £8million worth of cocaine was found in a lorry in a drugs bust in Haverhill.
Suffolk police was called to Iceni Way at 10.50am on Friday where a container was being unloaded.
A hidden void was found inside the container and numerous packages of white powder were discovered within.
The container was transported to a secure location by police so that a thorough search could take place and forensics enquiries carried out.
A total of 80 packages of cocaine were recovered, with a potential street value estimated at more than £8 million, Suffolk police said.
A 48-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Bury St Edmunds police investigation centre for questioning.
Vitali Macari, of Iasi in Romania, was subsequently charged with being concerned in carrying, concealing and dealing cocaine, with intent to evade prohibition on importing.
Macari appeared before Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on Monday, where he was remanded in custody pending an appearance at Ipswich Crown Court on Monday, April 3.
Suffolk police’s Serious and Organised Crime Unit is set to conduct and investigation into the discovery, with assistance from colleagues in the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit and the National Crime Agency.
