A rail firm is being called on to reimburse residents of a Suffolk town for having to park in public car parks while level crossings were closed to replace ageing track.

Woodbridge town councillor David Adelson would like Network Rail to repay houseboat owners on the River Deben who had to park in car parks on the 'town side' of the Woodbridge crossings while the work was taking place over the winter period.

Crossings at Ferry Lane, Haywards, Lime Kiln, Sun Wharf, Jetty Lane and Kingston Fields were all set to close to enable the maintenance so services could continue operating safely and reliably.

Cllr Adelson has asked the town council to write to Network Rail asking the company to fulfil its promises to residents on the river side of the crossings.

Other concerns included a lack of accurate signage advising of closures, no action on safety repairs to a footbridge and the closure of the floodgate on three weekends for Network Rail work that never took place.

His request is due to be considered by the council on Tuesday.
