Parts of the A14 will be closed each night until the end of March as work gets underway on the major road next week.

A National Highways scheme to remove, reconstruct and resurface the road in Suffolk will begin on Monday, February 20, 2023 and conclude on March 28.

The work will be taking place between Haughley at junction 47a and Tothill at junction 49.

However, a contraflow system will be utilised and will cover a larger stretch of the road each night.

The sceme will see National Highways removing the concrete road surface and some of the foundations, before rebuilding the road with recycled material and a new asphalt road surface.

As well as resurfacing the road, the project will also see replacement kerbs installed, safety barriers replaced, new road markings and new reflective road studs (cat’s eyes).

According to the National Highways website, the upcoming closures, which will take place between 8pm and 6am, are as follows:

  • Monday, February 20 until Friday, February 24 - A14 westbound junctions 43 to 51
  • Monday, February 27 until Friday, March 3 - A14 eastbound junctions 51 to 43
