A young Suffolk farm worker has been rewarded for his hard work by scooping a top apprentice award at a college ceremony.
Callum Hayes, 19, from Halesworth, scooped the top farm apprentice title at an event hosted by Suffolk New College in Ipswich.
The youngster, who works for arable farmer Mike Porter at Porters Farms, Walpole, near Halesworth, was among 12 lucky apprentices to scoop awards in their chosen sectors.
The event - held at the college's Chefs' Whites restaurant - was aimed at championing individuals and businesses who benefit from the popular programmes.
Callum said he was at work when he read the email informing him that he had won.
"I know I’d worked hard so I was very pleased and so was my employer. It will look good on the CV. I’m keen to do a level four qualification next," he said.
"I chose this route as you get to gather knowledge from college and learn on the job. You are also earning money and you don’t have to take a loan out to do an apprenticeship."
He added: "I’d say to others considering this qualification that the experience you gain while studying is crucial to the success of these qualifications."
Acting college principal Alan Pease congratulated Callum on the award.
The overall winner across the 12 apprenticeship categories was Ellie Shilling, 19, from Ravenswood in Ipswich who works for ABC Wonderland.
She also received the education and childcare apprentice of the year title. "It honestly feels amazing," she said.
The overall runner up was Adam Wilson, 30, from Watton in Norfolk, who works for Barnham Broom Hotel and Country Club near Norwich.
Adam, who also took the horticulture apprentice of the year title, changed career by moving from outdoor adventure to greenkeeping.
"When I found out I had won these awards I was proud," he said.
"I think this will help me in the future. I’m absolutely happy where I am but the dream would be to work at an iconic course like St Andrews – but I love my current role."
