A man and woman have been arrested after suspected stolen dogs were found in a van in Newmarket.
On Saturday, police stopped a white Ford Transit tipper van towing a caravan in High Street in the west Suffolk town.
Whilst talking to the occupants, two dogs were noticed in a wooden box in the rear of the vehicle, Suffolk police said.
After scanning the brown Spaniels for microchips, one reportedly came back as being stolen from Yorkshire and the Doncaster area.
The dogs, named Bramble and Bella, have been seized by police.
A 24-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods.
Both suspects were taken to Bury St Edmunds police investigation centre for questioning and were subsequently released under investigation.
Police are now launching an appeal for help to identify the owners of the dogs.
Anyone who has knowledge of the dogs or where they came from should contact Bury St Edmunds police, quoting crime reference number 37/6966/23.
