Roadworks that would have seen a 20-mile stretch of the A14 closed have been postponed.

National Highways, which maintains the country's road network, announced its plans for the roadworks last year

The A14 between junction 47a for Haughley and junction 49 at Tothill, outside Stowmarket, will be upgraded as part of the works.

The works were originally planned to take place from Tuesday, February 7, but a spokesman for National Highways has since confirmed that they have been postponed.

It is not yet clear when the roadworks will take place.

When the works do take place the A14 will only be closed in one direction at a time and roadworks will take place between 8pm and 6am.

The road closures that were put in place are as follows:

  • Tuesday, February 7 to Friday, February 10 - Full overnight closure of eastbound between junction 43 and junction 49
  • Monday, Wednesday 13 - Westbound layby closure
  • Tuesday, February 14 to Friday, February 17 and Monday, February 20 - Full overnight closure of westbound between junction 51 and junction 47
  • Tuesday, February 21 to Thursday, February 23 - Full overnight closure of westbound between junction 51 and junction 47
  • Thursday, February 23 to Friday, Febraury 24 and Monday, February 27 to Tuesday, February 28 - Full overnight closure of eastbound between junction 43 and junction 49
  • Wednesday, March 1 to Friday, March 3, Monday, March 6 to Thursday, March 9 and Monday, March 13 - Full overnight closure of westbound between junction 51 and junction 47

A signed diversion route would have been in place.

The diversion for the traffic would have been exit the A14 at junction 43 and take the A143 towards Diss and then the A140 towards Ipswich to re-join the A14 at J51.

For westbound traffic, it was the reverse. The diversion would have added about 60 minutes to your normal journey.
