The owner of a Suffolk pub has said he and his team were overjoyed to be named the second-best gastropub in the UK.

The Unruly Pig in Bromeswell, near Woodbridge, came second in the Estrella Damn's Top 50 Gastropubs guide for 2023

Owner Brendan Padfield said: "We're thrilled and delighted to be a part of this amazing, prestigious list that makes so much of a difference to our business and gastropubs.

"To have retained a place in the top three was genuinely unexpected.

"We were thrilled and in truth a bit stunned to win the number one spot last year.

"We hoped that we would retain a place in the top 10 but to have retained a place in the top three is marvelous and beyond expectation and a real privilege and pleasure.

"I have had the pleasure of eating at the Packers Arms who came number one and Kathy and Stosie are deserved winners."

Mr Padfield's pub claimed the prestigious top spot in 2022 after being named tenth in 2021.

Booking at the pub went "crazy" after it was crowned the best gastropub in the UK

Mr Padfield said it is his team that is behind the success of the pub.

He said: "I am lucky enough to have a fantastic team and I am privileged enough to have a chef who trained under Gordon Ramsey and his fellow head chef have shown loyalty and dedication.

"It's because the front-of-house team are wonderfully led by Jacky Ha and he brings out the best in people, and that is why we don't just win awards for our food but also for our service.

"This is good for the town but I think it's great for Suffolk and also East Anglia.

"We are a destination we get people from all over the country because we are a top three gastropub.

"It is good for Suffolk and it's good for everybody."
