A man arrested in connection with a serious sexual assault in Bury St Edmunds remains on bail as Suffolk Police continues their investigation.
Officers were approached at around 3am on December 4, 2022 and were informed of the alleged sexual assault.
The victim, a woman aged in her 20s, reported being attacked in an alleyway between King’s Road and the Waitrose car park off Robert Boby Way, at some time between midnight and 2.30am.
A 37-year-old man from north Norfolk was subsequently arrested on suspicion of rape.
He was taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning and was released on bail until Wednesday March 1, pending further enquiries.
The constabulary has confirmed the investigation is ongoing.
Detectives are treating this as an isolated incident and understand the parties involved had met earlier in the evening.
Officers are continuing to appeal for any potential witnesses, and in particular anyone who was in the vicinity of the car park and surrounding roads who may have seen or heard anything.
