Revised plans to turn an outdated former Suffolk shopping centre into flats have been submitted.
Knightspur Homes has submitted plans to transform the Cornhill Walk shopping centre in Bury St Edmunds into 45 homes.
The shopping centre which was home to stores such as New Look, JJB Sports, Etam and Principles closed down in 2016.
A design and access statement, submitted by Knightspur Homes to West Suffolk Council, said the opening of the Arc Shopping Centre and recession in 2008 had an impact on the decline of Cornhill Walk.
The statement added: "Declining need in retail in the area gives an opportunity to change the use of the site to mixed use.
"Provision of residential units along with a smaller number of better quality and visible retail spaces will revitalise the area."
The plans include six town houses, 37 flats and a pair of three-bed semi-detached houses with associated car and cycle parking, bin storage and access.
The revised plans comes after a previous application that was submitted to West Suffolk Council in 2019 that included turning the outdated former shopping centre into shops, flats, and a 24-hour gym were refused in 2021.
The site is in the Bury St Edmunds Town Centre Conservation Area and is also surrounded by a number of listed buildings in Brentgovel Street, Well Street and Cornhill.
