Woodbridge's streets have been brightened up thanks to the town’s business and tourism association and support from the local community.
A few weeks ago, Choose Woodbridge launched a campaign to purchase Christmas street lights and decorations for several of the riverside town’s main streets.
The association then said that the town “does not sparkle as it should at Christmas time” and decided to change that.
Choose Woodbridge achieved its goal and purchased 600 metres of lights that brightened up three pedestrian areas, Thoroughfare, Church Street and Market Hill.
The project is set to grow year by year to fully achieve its potential.
John Risby, the director of Choose Woodbridge, said: “We are so pleased to now have our first sets of Christmas lights installed throughout the town.
“We would not be in this position if it wasn’t for the fantastic support of our local community, businesses, residents and the Town and East Suffolk councils.
“We are incredibly grateful for their generosity in what is a difficult time for us all through the ongoing economic crisis.
“Together, we have helped bring festive cheer to Woodbridge. I hope people will love them just as much as we do here at Choose Woodbridge.
“This is only phase one of our ambitious plans to install more lights across the town centre – I am so excited to see what we can achieve.”
The Christmas atmosphere in Woodbridge was also created by the annual Christmas fair.
Mr Risby said: “The streets were absolutely packed, and it was fabulous to see so many people shopping with our independents and all the stalls we had on offer.
“This was the first fair we’ve put on since the pandemic began and we could not be happier with the results. It shows once again that Woodbridge town centre truly is thriving.
“Tim, from The Sandwich Shop, has done an incredible job organising the event for us and Choose Woodbridge is incredibly grateful for his hard work.”
