A former Ipswich student and Commonwealth Gold Medal winner has unveiled a special plaque at her old school.

Hannah Martin returned to Ipswich School, where she was a student from 1998 to 2013, to commemorate her hockey success.

She was part of the England women's hockey team who won gold at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham this summer.

The plaque unveiled by Ms Martin is part of the Golden Gateways initiative, celebrating the route to success of the gold medal-winning Team England athletes.

Ms Martin was able to choose a location for her plaque and decided her old school would be the location.

Ms Martin was part of the U11 team at Ipswich Prep School, the first from the school to win a county hockey championship.

At the unveiling in the prep school, she spoke to an assembly of pupils from years 3 to 6 about her sporting journey.

Mrs Claire Jackson, head of Ipswich Prep School, said: "We were thrilled that Hannah chose us to receive this special plaque.

"They were so excited to be able to hold her Commonwealth gold and Olympic bronze medals."

After the unveiling, Ms Martin signed hockey sticks for the current U11 girls team.
