The Secretary of State for Business said yesterday (Monday) that West Suffolk MP Matt Hancock should have been ‘in parliament representing his constituents’ following his controversial appearance in ITV show ‘I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!’
Mr Hancock finished third in the show’s final on Sunday, behind the winner, England footballer Jill Scott and second-placed actor Owen Warner.
His participation meant spending three weeks in Australia, where the show is filmed, which prevented him from being present in parliament for debates.
While visiting the proposed Sizewell C site on Monday, Grant Shapps said: “I don’t think that he should have gone there in the first place. It is right that he should be in parliament.”
When asked whether Mr Hancock’s reputation had been damaged, Mr Shapps replied: “I don’t think it is about the reputation of an individual, it is about working for your constituents.”
