Matt Hancock has announced that he has 'no intention of stepping away from politics' following his third-place finish on I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!
After last night's result for the former health secretary, The Sun ran a splash entitled "I'm a Celeb... now get me out of politics", in which it was suggested that "secret talks" had been held to get Matt Hancock "out of politics and into showbiz".
A spokesman for Matt Hancock said: "Matt has no intention of standing down or stepping away from politics and there has been no conversation with Mayah Riaz or any other PR."
Previously, Haverhill Town Council, the largest town in Mr Hancock's constituency, called on the MP to resign his post immediately.
In a letter sent from the town clerk Colin Poole, the Haverhill councillors said their MP must step aside to "clear the pitch for someone who wants to serve the people of West Suffolk".
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was also among those who spoke out about Mr Hancock's decision to enter the jungle, saying he felt it was not "noble" because he was failing to prioritise his "constituents and our country".
